Week 8 Thing 18

I just heard that we need to list each Thing to make it easier for overseers to credit us. Sorry I haven't been doing this.

Thing 18- Access to these online productivity programs is super. Would anybody be too upset if Microsoft took a little hit? I created a short doc. and did try to post it to my blog using the "publish' option in Zoho but it didn't work. Knowing that this is out there is cool. My issi lives in California and the next time we have a draft a letter together for our folks, Zoho is it!!

Week 7 Wikis

Advice from one source that wikis are best used by groups who know each other was good. In my sort experience with wikis tonight I fell upon an error in one-- it referred to UPENN and then the link for more info. went on to talk about Penn State University. Two different institutions.

I spent a little time tossing some sand around and added an entry to Maryland's 2.0 Sandbox wiki.

Commoncraft.com

What a great way to present a tutorial. Maybe they could devise something that could help libraries promote databases.... Love their description
"We use simple tools to make sense of a complex world."

Week 6- Tagging, etc.

Del.icio.us offers some targeted searching for sites that serious users are taking note of to use again. The quick tutorial I listened to was done by the same group that is helping ALA vision for the future. The use of tagging must blow the minds of catalogers and Sears Subject Headings devotees. I had to laugh at the reference to "the old fashioned Web." Guess I should stop calling my 2001 car, which I bought in 2005 'new' too.

Week 5- Play Week

Gee wiz-- I designed a cool avatar for moiself and then couldn't figure out how to put in on my blog. Stay tuned.

Update- Jim D. made it happen!

Things 11 and 12: I also realized I hadn't scrolled and seen all of our Thingys we needed to do. so I went back and got to know Library Thing beter and Rollyo too! I guess I took this "Play Week" thing literally the first time ;)

Week 4-RSS Feeds

I'm realizing how Google-based this project is. I guess I've selected the Google options for accomplishing some of the tasks and there are other options as well. I signed up for one RSS feed to start with (News) and will try to also find some neat library RSS feeds as well.

Update! Found an OCLC blog "It's All Good" about practical library stuff. Will now try to make going to my Google page a habit ;)
